Our Neese District may be the smallest, but their hearts are as large as any. Recently, the district joined together to help four families, including nine children, have a merrier Christmas than they might have had otherwise.

The District has sponsored the Madison County Christmas for Children program for many years, but this year they collected and donated $900 worth of toys, clothes, shoes and educational supplies, surpassing previous years’ collections. The funds came from their employee association contributions plus additional individual donations. The cooperative also allowed time for several of the employees to shop for and deliver the goodies.

“The collaborative effort reflects what a cooperative is all about,” said Jean Mullis, Neese District manager.  “This is a great cause in our community and our folks always join together and help others, even when times are tough.”

“Overall, nearly 400 local children had a better Christmas thanks to the people of Madison County taking care of the people of Madison County,” said Bobbie Rooker, Madison County Food Bank director. “Area businesses, churches and community groups made this year’s drive a huge success.”

While the Madison County Food Bank hosts the annual Christmas for Children program, their main focus is collecting and supplying food and resources to the needy families year round.  To see how you can help in Madison County, contact Director Bobbie Rooker at bobbiejrooker@gmail.com, visit the food bank on Hwy 98 or call (706) 795-5465.
